An Auckland man who admitted attacking his 78-year-old neighbour with a crowbar has been jailed for nearly four years after the neighbour died.

was imprisoned for three years and nine months when he was sentenced in the High Court at Auckland on Tuesday.
Justice Pamela Andrews accepted that Toafiga was acting in self defence but lost control and hit Leslie Otto on the ground with a crowbar, Fairfax reports.

His injuries were thought to be a factor but doctors also found he had pneumonia.
Toafiga was originally charged with manslaughter but admitted a lesser charge of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.
Court documents showed Toafiga and Mr Otto did not get on, and on the day of the attack, nuskin group
in April last year, Toafiga verbally abused Mr Otto as they were waiting for a bus back to their flats in suburban Waterview.
Back at their homes, Mr Otto approached Toafiga with a crowbar and allegedly called him a "black coconut bastard".
